Cancer Council Victoria is the official Charity Partner of the 2017 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships and the Mars Cycling Australia Road Nationals Gran Fondo.
Cancer Council Victoria is the largest cancer control organization in Victoria, which funds cancer research, prevention and patient support services.
Every year, more than 30,500 Victorians will be diagnosed with cancer, and nearly 11,000 will die from cancer. The number of cases will increase as our population grows and ages. Survival will also improve as we get better at early detection and treatment of cancer.
Since its establishment in 1937, Cancer Council Victoria has developed an international reputation for our innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, they play a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people.
MISSION: To reduce the impact of all cancers for all Victorians.
VALUES: Excellence, integrity, compassion
Partnering with major events assists Cancer Council Victoria in promoting key health messages and towards raising funds to reduce the impact of cancer.
Todd Harper, Cancer Council Victoria CEO said he is thrilled by the partnership that has developed with the national event.
“As a keen cyclist myself, I am delighted that Cancer Council Victoria has partnered with the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships."
“Cycling is a wonderful form of exercise, something that is important in reducing the risk of cancer. But it’s also important to remember that during peak UV season, riders need to think about protecting their skin from the sun,” Harper said.
“Being physically active and SunSmart are just two ways we can help prevent a third of all cancers, along with eating a healthy diet, being a healthy weight, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol and getting checked,” Harper said.
